Bird Watching in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary
Explore one of Uganda's top birding spots, right on the edge of Kibale Forest National Park. Bigodi is home to over 200 bird species, including the great blue turaco and the rare shoebill stork, plus eight primate species like the red and black and white colobus monkeys.
A local guide walks you along raised boardwalks through swamp forest and papyrus reeds, pointing out calls and sightings along the way. The tour takes about three hours and works for both first time birders and seasoned spotters. Proceeds support the community that runs the sanctuary.
Bring binoculars and comfortable shoes. Early morning or late afternoon gives you the best chance of seeing birds active.
